MFR is available during the week, including evenings from all of our MFR therapists. Our clinic reception is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

All patients attending The Natural Therapy Centre are asked to complete a personal details and medical intake form prior to treatment.

Your MFR therapist will discuss details of your discomfort and pain, history of accidents and other details relevant to the session as well as complete a postural, movement and functional evaluation prior to treatment.

Evaluation of your muscles, joints and connective tissue/fascial system will also be done by gentle palpation of your body on the treatment table. This full evaluation allows your therapist to see and feel for areas requiring treatment in order to facilitate change. Treatment will be carried out not only on the areas of discomfort but also areas of tension elsewhere in your body in order to balance the entire structure.

Patients are treated in underwear or if you prefer, please bring shorts and ladies may opt to wear a vest or crop top.

Please can you refrain from using body moisturiser and fake tan on the day of treatment as your therapist will tend to slip on your skin rather than stretch and release the tight tissue.

Patients often ask how many sessions are required. This is dependent on how your body responds to the treatment and in some cases also dependant on what you do in between sessions with regards to lifestyle, work, stress, sleep and physical demands. However, most people feel changes early on in treatment and continue to progress after each session.

Each session is tailored to meet the needs of the individual. Some patients initially prefer to come for regular weekly or twice weekly treatments in order to resolve their pain as quickly as possible then return every few months for top up appointments. Others prefer to come on a less regular basis. Either option is acceptable however less frequent appointments can mean that the return to health can be a slower process.

MFR intensive treatments

Many patients take the opportunity to come for MFR intensives which is a valuable and cost effective way of expediting change.

The intensive programs allow patients who are travelling from across the UK, internationally and those with chronic pain to immerse themselves in treatments in order to facilitate heir healing.

Whilst MFR is a hands-on whole body approach to healthcare it also incorporates methods to allow the patient to gain insight into their unconscious habitual holding and bracing patterns and how we can use our mind to promote health. These bracing patterns, both emotional and physical, have created a straight-jacket like hold on the body that few complementary or allied healthcare professions have been able to break through. This is mainly because these patterns have existed out with the patient’s awareness. Without awareness there is no choice.

With MFR techniques and Unwinding the patient can eventually grasp the valuable information that has been hidden within their unconscious mind in order to allow them to heal. Whilst the process occurs in all MFR sessions the intensive treatments allow time for the processing of this information, both physically and emotionally without the possibility of old familiar bracing and holding patterns creeping back into the body and mind in between treatments. This is a valuable gift that the intensives offer, time for change. Healing is a process not an event.

Other benefits of intensive programs

  • Continual postural, movement and palpatory evaluation
  • Before and after treatment photographs (optional)
  • Therapeutic rehabilitation and self help techniques
  • Relaxation training
  • Body/mind connection awareness
  • Goal setting

Intensives can be structured from 3 hours sessions, the mini intensive, to a set of 15 hours over 4-5 days. The optimum time per day for treatment is 3 hours. This may be split into 3 separate hours or 2 sessions of 90 minutes each. The patient is allocated a treatment room that they will use for the duration of their treatment.

The MFR rehabilitation and self help program

Your therapist will be able to provide you with information to help you understand your condition in order to help you adapt things you do in your lifestyle and in your posture that may be harbouring your pain and dysfunction.  They will also be able to provide you with an easy and effective home program of stretch and exercise to enhance your treatment.

Core stability and flexibility is paramount to your return to health and fitness. Pilates rehabilitation is provided at The Natural Therapy Centre by Jane Meek, a Body Control Pilates teacher and MFR therapist. Jane runs Pilates classes in the area and also provides one to one Pilates rehabilitation treatments at the clinic.
